Ensenada is the main port in the Baja California, a peninsula 1100km (700 miles) long, that extends south from Tijuana. Wine tasting tours are popular – the Bodegas de Santo Tomas (the oldest winery in the region) and Cavas Valmar wineries both provide excellent tours, while out of town, Chateau Camou, Monte Xanic and Mogor-Badan are established vineyards. La Bufadora (The Blowhole), located south of the city, is also spectacular – this natural cave, formed by marine erosion, throws water and foam high up into the air. The whole of Baja California is rich in marine life and offers excellent opportunities for experienced divers and anglers. Baja’s Pacific lagoons are an important breeding ground for whales, and whale watching is popular.
