Celebrity Edge
The clock is counting down. On 4 December the most anticipated introduction of a ship in many a year will take place in Fort Lauderdale. Nobel Laureate and UN Messenger of Peace Malala Yousafzai will become Godmother to Celebrity Edge and officiate at the christening ceremony. Following this glittering occasion the 2,918-guest Celebrity Edge will start her Eastern Caribbean cruises to San Juan, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and St. Maarten; as well as Western Caribbean sailings to Key West, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Grand Cayman. In summer 2019 Celebrity Edge will be cruising in Europe.
Designed completely in 3-D and featuring the work of celebrated British interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE, this will be a showstopper. Staterooms will have a revolutionary design which adds 23% more square footage and 10% larger bathrooms than Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice Class. The new Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda turns guest accommodation into a seamless space, from the door all the way to the water’s edge. A touch of a button gives open-air access to the sea, bringing the outside in and the inside out.
Celebrity Edge will also showcase the company’s most groundbreaking entertainment programme. Celebrity Edge's main theatre will feature four stage areas and three gigantic, moving projection screens. Five new full production shows include: the Shakespeare-inspired ‘A Hot Summer Night's Dream,’ which combines light-hearted theatre and acrobatics; ‘The Jewellery Box,’ which relies heavily on The Theatre's technology; ‘Kaleidoscope,’ a high-energy music and dance extravaganza; and two shows that are part of Celebrity's new Headline Residency programme – ‘Get Up,’ a pop concert-style show; and ‘The Purpose,’ a production designed to celebrate the inner self and be uplifting.
There’s no doubt this new class of 129,000-tonne ships is as far from the cookie-cutter norm as it’s possible to imagine. Cantilevered from the side of the ship, the Magic Carpet is the size of a tennis court. This incredible engineering feat scales the 16-deck ship by day and night, positioning at four of the ship’s decks, transforming into a new and exciting experience at each one. There will also be a Rooftop Garden Grill where at night; guests can enjoy an outdoor movie-and-meal pairing of ‘A Taste of Film.’
Celebrity Cruises has redesigned the main dining experience to include four complimentary restaurants. Each has a distinctive design and ambience inspired by a specific region of the world including: the Tuscan Restaurant featuring Italian-inspired dishes; Normandie Restaurant for French cuisine; Cyprus Restaurant specialises in flavourful Mediterranean cuisine; as well as the Cosmopolitan Restaurant featuring new American cuisine. Speciality dining will include the Fine Cut Steakhouse; Rooftop Garden Grill; Eden Restaurant; Raw on 5 plus Dinner on the Edge - accessible when the Magic Carpet is positioned at the very top level, becoming an exhilarating experience.
