Uniworld launches U by Uniworld

With its fleet of 13 river vessels, the boutique river cruise company Uniworld sails some of Europe’s most spectacular rivers visiting historic and picturesque cities and towns. Arguably the most luxurious vessels in the competitive river cruise market, Uniworld’s ships sail the Rhine, Danube, Douro, Rhone, Seine, Gironde, Garonne and Dordogne rivers.

Not content with raising the bar in this burgeoning sector of cruising, this dynamic company is launching U BY UNIWORLD next year. This is a move intended to reach the untapped younger demographic of river cruisers. The radical concept is aimed 21 – 45 year olds who want to experience the pulse of Europe aboard two 120-passenger ships on the Rhine, Main, Danube and Seine aboard ships with a more contemporary look and feel. U by UNIWORLD will feature four unique seven-night itineraries on two transformed ships – River Ambassador and River Baroness. Prices will be significantly cheaper than Uniworld’s mainstream cruises and will include free Wi-Fi, one shore excursion each day, breakfast and dinner, but not lunch as passengers are expected to stay ashore all day. Drinks packages will be available.

The two ships – named The A and The B - will feature a black-and-white palette in all public areas, there will be a clean and modern finish to the staterooms, and there will be buffet dining at communal tables. Other novel facets include cooking classes, yoga, painting, while creative mixologists will be a talking point and add to the vibe after dark when live entertainment and international DJs take control of this new river cruise lifestyle. The Sun Deck will have a café-bar as well as an open-air movie screen.

Another difference is that excursions will be active, with some taking place at night. Options include an evening bike ride along the Danube, a ‘Midnight in Paris’ stroll, a canal cruise in Amsterdam, vineyard hikes and a street art walk. All tours will be accompanied by the two onboard U Hosts. Many of the cruises are also timed to coincide with events such as Oktoberfest.

U by UNIWORLD is aimed at ‘young professionals’ who have a bit of money and who want to meet and hang out with people with similar aspirations. This is a novel way to experience the pulse of Europe as well as enjoying independent discovery and adventurous excursions.
