St. Barts was first discovered by Christopher Columbus as far back as 1493 and named after his brother Bartolommeo. Since then it has been occupied by both the French and the Maltese, and the influences of each different culture is of course reflected in both its history and character.

One of Gustavia’s best selling points is the wide variety of activities on offer to both tourists and residents. Many coastal cities can boast fourteen beaches (or, indeed, even more) but few can claim that they are not crowded with other tourists. Visit the white sandy beaches of St. Barts and you may feel as if you have left the whole world behind!
