Fujairah in detail

Fujairah is a very popular and yet quite understated stop for most cruise ships. It is still fairly industrial and uses the port for business and trade; however, travel a little further inland and the city reveals itself to be full of history and wonder.

For instance, the Al Bidyah mosque found in Fujairah is the oldest mosque in the United Arab Emirates. It was built as far back as 1446 and you can only find similar specimens in places like Oman and Qatar. An additional visit to the Fujairah Museum will provide you with all sorts of information on this incredible masterpiece, and its significance in both historical and modern day Islam.

Don’t forget to visit the stunning coastline, which has been left largely untouched and is a welcome break from the world’s many overcrowded beaches. There is also a little market where you can buy various traditional gifts, foods and other products; despite it being called ‘The Friday Market’, don’t worry if it isn’t Friday – you can visit any time of the week.
