Regina Rheni ll
- Ship in Detail
On an exclusive charter to Saga Cruises, the Saga Regina Rheni II was built in 2000 and was formerly operated by Viking River Cruises. Accommodating 154 passengers, this premium vessel has five decks and in keeping with its pedigree, the restaurant is located at the stern of Upper Deck, while the Lounge and Bar are forward on the same deck. This means passengers can amble between the public rooms without going down stairs. There is a lift that connects all deluxe cabins on Middle and Upper Decks (there are six steps to reach Main Deck cabins). These decks are raised in the centre to ensure enough space to accommodate the standard river cruise capacity while remaining lower on the river, giving the ship a more intimate appearance.
There are five grades of accommodation across four decks with Single; Standard and Deluxe cabins as well as a Junior Suite. Standard cabins (approx 118 sq ft) are compact and during the day one bed folds away and the other is converted into a sofa, there’s also a small window. The more specious Deluxe cabins (approx 160 sq ft) have been recently refurbished and come with permanent beds configured as double or twin, there’s a large picture window that can be opened.
In the Restaurant, breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style (with served courses available) while dinner is a four-course affair. Cuisine is of a consistently high standard and has achieved a two-rosette Good Food award by Saga Cruises. Complimentary soft drinks, beer and house wine are served at lunch and dinner.
There is a covered promenade area with seating around the Upper Deck which is ideal for leisurely strolls. The sweeping views can be enjoyed on the Sun Deck which is partially shaded. Passengers also appreciate the well-stocked library and small shop which are also on Upper Deck. Afternoon tea and cocktails are served in the Lounge where the Cruise Director gives briefings on the next day’s activities. After dinner there’s live music each evening as well as occasional light-hearted games and quizzes.
From March through October Saga Regina Rheni II cruises the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers with a selection of cruises ranging from seven-night sailings to epic 23-night voyages from the North Sea to the Black Sea. The fact that all excursions and gratuities are included is something we commend – as well as inclusive return flights and transfers, not to mention the optional Saga Travel insurance with additional cancellation rights.
