Gran Canaria in detail

With around 40% of the population of the Canary Islands settled in Gran Canaria, there is plenty to do and see!

Gran Canaria is often referred to as being a ‘mini continent’ because its location subjects it to a wide range of different climates. There is also a big difference between the northern and southern regions, the northern being cool and rocky and the southern being hotter with smooth sandy beaches. Amazingly, around one third of the whole island is protected by UNESCO.

The residents of Gran Canaria pride themselves on their physical wellbeing. Gyms and fitness centres can be found throughout the region but, of course, the most important factor is the ocean-sized swimming pool. As with many of the gorgeous coastal regions you will come to visit, all sorts of water-based sports and activities are open to you here. So enjoy!
