Uncover the vast multi-coloured history of Penang, Malaysia. This north-western island offers a mix of Asian, Indian and European flavours and is known as a paradise of Malaysian cuisine. There are several must-see locations on the island of Penang; don’t miss the UNESCO protected capital, Georgetown, and the wonderful sandy beaches of Batu Ferringhi.

Take a sightseeing trip across the island; visit the ancient Kek Lok Si Temple, a fascinating three story shrine, or find Devine inspiration at the Wat Buppharam Buddhist temple with its iconic ‘Lifting Buddha’ covered in gold leaf. For a modern family attraction, forget Malaysian spirituality and head to the Georgetown Toy Museum which holds over 100,000 objects of play, or to unwind in a place of beauty and tranquillity, visit the island’s Botanical Gardens; a 30-hectare black, which aside from the wonderful fauna is home to a number of long-tail macaque monkeys.

As you explore the island, don’t hesitate to taste the Penang cuisine. Stop off at the road-side ‘hawker food’ stalls and sample the Penang Laksa, a thick noodle and fish soup.
