Despite being the namesake of Royal Caribbean's six-ship Vision class fleet, the 2,050-passenger Vision of the Seas was actually the final vessel of its kind when it entered service in 1998. There was a much-needed refurbishment in 2013 when all accommodation grades were given a makeover; ship-wide a number of new features were added such as the 220 sq ft poolside movie screen; Giovanni’s Table trattoria; Asian Izumi Restaurant; and R-Bar – a nicely furnished addition to the Centrum (atrium) where a mixologist creates classic cocktails as well as new concoctions.

There’s a wide range of accommodation options starting at the rather snug 132 – 172 sq ft Inside Staterooms – the family versions have pull-down beds or sofa-beds for up to four occupants. The Outside Staterooms range from 151 to 237 sq ft – here the family options can accommodate eight with the use of sofa-beds and pull-down beds, although in truth this makes the cabins rather crowded – especially with only one bathroom. The 234 sq ft Balcony Staterooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that lead on to the balcony. Mini-Suites and Suites range from 310 to 1,300 sq ft. Royal Family Suites have two bedrooms and two bathrooms and can accommodate eight. The Royal Suite has a separate bedroom with king-size bed, private balcony with hot tub, whirlpool bathtub, living room with queen-size sofa-bed, baby grand piano and concierge service.

The two-deck high Aquarius Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A less formal option is the Windjammer Café which serves a wide range of cuisines buffet-style. Alternative dining at a supplement includes Chops Grille - the signature steakhouse featuring cooked to order premium steaks plus fresh seafood. The Chef’s Table is an exclusive experience co-hosted by the Executive Chef and sommelier who prepare a 5-course wine-pairing dinner.

This ship also has a Viking Crown Lounge with great views of the sea and is popular for cocktails and music by night. The Schooner Bar is a nautical haven inspired by the sea and is a great favourite thanks to nightly piano entertainers. The Masquerade Theatre includes a nightly infusion of toe-tapping hits from popular musicals, while the Some Enchanted Evening Lounge offers nightly cabaret-style entertainment.

Vision of the Seas is a decidedly family-friendly ships and we like the facilities for youngsters starting with the ‘Royal Babies’ and ‘Royal Tots’ for babies aged 6 to 18 months – there’s also a nursery. The Adventure Ocean youth programme offers ‘Aquanauts’ for 3 to 5 year olds; ‘Explorers’ for kids aged between 6 and 8; and ‘Voyagers’ for 9 to 11 year olds. There’s also a Teen Programme for 12 to 17 year olds.
