Though Emerald Princess first debuted in 2007, the most recent upgrade in 2015 has maintained a modern vibe to its public areas. While not the largest ship in the Princess Cruises’ fleet, the 3,092-passenger Emerald Princess is laden with natty features. The ship earns high praise from past cruisers for its relaxed atmosphere and friendly crew. The recent makeover included additional features such as the Salty Dog Gastropub; and SHARE – renowned American chef Curtis Stone’s first restaurant at sea - where diners can share plates of fresh charcuterie and buttered lobster at communal tables.

Despite the ship’s size, 80 percent of its cabins have balconies. Décor is consistent with neutral colour tones on the walls and furniture. Inside cabins range from 162 to 182 sq ft; Oceanview cabins are none too generous at 158 to 179 sq ft; while the 231 sq ft Balcony cabins are much sight after – as are the 323 sq ft Mini-Suites which have a 37 sq ft balcony. Suites and family suites are broken into five sub categories, the main difference being the size, ranging from 460 to 687 sq ft.

There are three main dining rooms that come in handy for the line’s Personal Choice Dining Programme. The Michelangelo and Da Vinci Dining Rooms are for open seating ‘Anytime Dining’, while the Botticelli Dining Room is geared around passengers preferring an established dining routine with set times and tablemates. The ship's signature steak and seafood restaurant Crown Grill is the kind of restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. It oozes old-style glamour with images of New York scattered over the walls and passengers can either sit in the leather-clad booths or at circular tables. Casual offerings include the Horizon Court Buffet (which has occasional themed dinners); Café Caribe; and the Trident Grill.

The Princess Theatre has its own resident troupe of almost 20 singers and dancers as well as a nine-piece orchestra and is the venue for shows that come with plenty of sparkle and spandex. Dancing to live music is popular in the Wheelhouse Bar where the Rhumba Duo provides the rhythms, while couples can play Marriage Match in Club Fusion. After all the revelry, a DJ keeps the tempo buzzing until late in the Skywalkers Nightclub. On deck, ‘Movies Under the Stars’ has two evening screenings of classic and newly released blockbusters.

We love hanging out in the Piazza which has a continual buzz both day and night. In addition to the International Café or Vines Wine Bar (where the tables are polished wine barrels), there's daily entertainment to be enjoyed by all the family, with snippets from the shows in the Princess Theatre as well as impromptu acrobatics and dance displays.
